Craps Odds & Payout Chart

This craps odds and payout chart puts every common wager on one page: what the casino pays, what the bet would pay if it were fair (the true odds), and the house edge you pay for the privilege of making it. If you only remember one thing from this page, make it this: a big payout is not the same as a good bet. A Pass Line bet pays only even money, yet it costs you about 1.4% of your action. A bet on boxcars pays 30 to 1 and costs nearly ten times as much.

Every number below comes from the 36 equally likely ways two dice can land, so you can check the math yourself. Payouts are the standard ones used in most U.S. casinos and online craps games. Some tables pay a little more or a little less on the Field and certain proposition bets, so always compare the felt (or the online paytable) with the chart before you play. New to the game? Read how to play craps first, then use this chart alongside our full guide to craps bets explained.

Craps Payout Chart: Every Main Bet at a Glance

The table below is the quick-reference version. "Pays" is what the casino actually pays on a win, written "to 1," which means you get your original bet back plus the winnings. "True odds" is the payout that would make the bet perfectly fair. The gap between those two columns is where the house edge comes from.

Craps Odds Chart: Probability of Rolling Each Number

Two six-sided dice produce 36 combinations. Seven is the most common total because six combinations make it (1-6, 2-5, 3-4, 4-3, 5-2, 6-1). Two and twelve are the rarest, with one combination each. Everything else in craps, from the come-out roll to the price of a hardway, is built on this table.

On the come-out roll, a Pass Line bet wins right away 22.2% of the time (a 7 or 11, eight of 36 combinations) and loses right away 11.1% of the time (2, 3, or 12, four combinations). The other two-thirds of the time a point is set. Over the whole bet, Pass wins 244 times out of every 495 decisions, or 49.29%.

Odds of Making Each Point

Once a point is set, only two numbers matter for the Pass Line: the point and the 7. Because the 7 has six ways to roll, every point is an underdog. This is why the free odds bet pays more on the outside numbers than on the 6 and 8.

Free Odds Payouts (Pass and Don't Pass)

The odds bet is the only wager in the casino with no house edge. Right-side players "take" odds behind a Pass Line or Come bet and are paid at true odds. Dark-side players "lay" odds behind Don't Pass or Don't Come, which means risking more to win less, also at true odds. Because the payouts are fractional, bet amounts that divide cleanly avoid short pays.

PointTake Odds PaysExample ($10 odds)Lay Odds PaysExample (lay to win $10)

5 or 93 to 2wins $152 to 3lay $15
6 or 86 to 5wins $125 to 6lay $12

The odds do not change the house edge on your flat bet, but they lower the blended edge on all the money you have in action. The more odds you take relative to your line bet, the closer the combined edge gets to zero. Common "3-4-5x" tables let you take three times your flat bet on 4 and 10, four times on 5 and 9, and five times on 6 and 8, which works out to a win of six times your flat bet on every point.

Place Bet Payouts and Odds

A place bet wins if its number rolls before a 7, and you can usually turn it off or take it down between rolls. The casino keeps its edge by paying slightly less than true odds. Bet in the units shown so the payout comes out even; a $5 Place 6, for example, would pay only $5 instead of the $5.83 the 7-to-6 rate implies.

Place BetPaysTrue OddsHouse EdgeClean Unit
6 or 87 to 66 to 51.52%$6 ($12 pays $14)
5 or 97 to 53 to 24.00%$5 ($10 pays $14)
4 or 109 to 52 to 16.67%$5 ($10 pays $18)

Buy and Lay Bets (With 5% Commission)

Buy bets are place bets that pay true odds in exchange for a 5% commission, also called the vig. Lay bets are the reverse: you bet that the 7 shows before the number, at true odds, and pay 5% of the amount you stand to win. Whether the vig is charged up front or only when you win makes a big difference, so ask the dealer before you bet.

BetPaysHouse Edge (vig paid up front)House Edge (vig on wins only)

Lay 5 or 92 to 3, less 5% of win3.23%2.00%
Lay 6 or 85 to 6, less 5% of win4.00%2.27%

The practical takeaway: buying the 4 or 10 beats placing them (6.67%) at almost any table, and it is much better when the commission is collected only on wins. On the 6 and 8, the regular place bet (1.52%) is cheaper than buying them.

Field, Big 6/8, and Hardways Payouts

The Field is a one-roll bet on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12. It looks generous because it covers seven numbers, but those numbers add up to only 16 of the 36 combinations; the 5, 6, 7, and 8 (20 combinations) all lose. With 2 and 12 paying double the house edge is 5.56%; when the 12 pays triple it drops to 2.78%. The Big 6 and Big 8 pay even money for something that is a 5-to-6 underdog, which is why they cost 9.09%, the same bet as a Place 6 or 8 at a much worse price.

A hardway wins if the number is rolled as a pair (for example, 3-3 for a hard 6) before it is rolled the "easy" way or a 7 appears. Hard 6 and hard 8 each have one winning combination against ten losing ones (four easy ways plus six sevens), so the true odds are 10 to 1 and the 9-to-1 payout leaves a 9.09% edge. Hard 4 and hard 10 have one winning combination against eight losers (two easy ways plus six sevens), so they pay 7 to 1 against true odds of 8 to 1, an 11.11% edge.

Proposition Bet Payouts

The center of the table holds the one-roll proposition bets. They are fun and fast, but every one of them carries a double-digit house edge. Note the difference between "to 1" and "for 1": a bet that pays "30 for 1" returns $30 including your $1 stake, which is really 29 to 1 and raises the edge.

Craps House Edge by Bet, Ranked

Ranked from cheapest to most expensive, the house edge tells you how much of each bet the casino expects to keep over the long run. A 1.41% edge means that across many $10 Pass Line decisions you should expect to lose about 14 cents per bet on average; a 16.67% edge on Any Seven means about $1.67 per $10 bet.

House edges here are measured per bet resolved, the standard way they are quoted. Don't Pass is shown counting the 12 push as a bet; if you ignore pushes it is 1.40%, still a hair better than Pass.

How to Use This Chart at the Table

Start on the top of the ranking and work down only as far as your comfort allows. A simple session built from Pass Line or Come bets with odds, plus a Place 6 or 8, keeps nearly all of your money in bets that cost less than 1.6%. If you want more action, adding odds is always cheaper than adding center-table bets. Our craps strategy guide turns these numbers into complete game plans, including the 3-Point Molly.

Use the chart as a check, too. Online craps games and some casinos change the paytable on the Field, hop bets, and the 2 and 12. If a game pays less than the numbers above, its edge is higher than shown. If you hear unfamiliar terms like "vig," "hop," or "horn high," the craps glossary explains them, and the etiquette guide covers how to call bets to the dealer.

Finally, remember what the chart cannot do. House edge describes the long run, not your next hour. Even the best bets lose often in the short term, and no betting system turns a negative-edge game into a positive one. Set a budget before you play, treat losses as the cost of entertainment, and gamble responsibly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the payout chart for craps?

Pass Line and Come pay 1 to 1; odds pay 2 to 1 on 4 and 10, 3 to 2 on 5 and 9, and 6 to 5 on 6 and 8; place bets pay 9 to 5, 7 to 5, and 7 to 6; hard 6 and 8 pay 9 to 1 and hard 4 and 10 pay 7 to 1; Any Craps pays 7 to 1, Yo and Ace-Deuce 15 to 1, Aces and Boxcars 30 to 1, and Any Seven 4 to 1.

What are the true odds in craps?

True odds compare the ways to lose with the ways to win. For the points, the 7 has six ways against three for 4 or 10 (2 to 1), four for 5 or 9 (3 to 2), and five for 6 or 8 (6 to 5). The free odds bet is the only wager paid at true odds.

Which craps bet has the best odds?

The free odds bet, at 0% house edge. Among standalone bets, Don't Pass and Don't Come (1.36%), Pass Line and Come (1.41%), and Place 6 or 8 (1.52%) are the cheapest.

What does 3-4-5x odds mean?

It means you can take three times your flat bet in odds on 4 and 10, four times on 5 and 9, and five times on 6 and 8. Each maximum odds bet wins six times your flat bet, and the combined house edge on Pass drops to about 0.37%.

How is the house edge calculated in craps?

Multiply each possible result by its probability out of the 36 dice combinations, add up the expected win and loss, and divide by the amount bet. For a Place 6, you win $7 five times and lose $6 six times out of 11 decisions: a $1 loss per $66 wagered, or 1.52%.

Why does a place bet on 6 pay 7 to 6?

The fair payout would be 6 to 5. Paying 7 to 6 instead is how the casino earns its 1.52% edge, and it is why you should place the 6 and 8 in $6 units.
